Emergency gas shut-off - from field install to utility command center
GasGarda is a Planet Safety Systems platform for utility companies: IoT-connected emergency gas shut-off valves, environmental sensors, and valve controllers. Imajine scoped, designed, and built the full ecosystem - hardware integration, installer mobile app, and admin dashboard for alerts, remote shut-off, and area-wide isolation on a live map.

One ecosystem, two critical audiences
A mobile app for installers who provision gateways, complete urgent field tasks, and follow installation instructions - and a web dashboard for utility operators who monitor incidents, read sensor telemetry, assign work, and shut off gas remotely or by geographic area.
Utility admin dashboard
Incident management, live sensor readings, task assignment, and map-based operations for utility companies.

Built for installers on site
From urgent tamper alerts to greenfield gateway installs, the React Native app guides technicians through every step and ties physical hardware to the cloud.

Urgent field tasks
Prioritized assignments with client details, schedule, location, and step-by-step instructions.

Task overview & next steps
Technicians review scope, read instructions, and launch installation workflows from a focused field UI.

Gateway provisioning on site
Scan gateway QR codes or enter device IDs to register hardware and link valve controllers to the cloud.
Incidents, readings, and remote control for utilities
When a sensor reports a malfunction, tamper, or unsafe gas level, operators drill into incident details, assign tasks to field installers, and act on live readings before issuing a shut-off command.
Incident response
Monitor malfunctions, gas readings, tamper events, and valve status. Assign tasks and track resolution from one view.
Geographic command
View every sensor, valve controller, and network on a live map. Filter by company, sensor type, state, or network.
Remote & area shut-off
Trigger remote valve shut-off from the dashboard or isolate gas supply across an entire area when conditions require it.
Hardware fleet management
Manage locations, networks, valve controllers, sensors, installation instructions, and OTA firmware updates.
Utility map - shut off by location or entire area
Operators see gas, water, valve, tamper, temperature, and CO sensors across Los Angeles and beyond. Color-coded pins and filters by utility company, sensor type, state, and network make it possible to isolate a single property or execute an area-wide emergency shut-off when the situation demands it.

Scoping through hardware integration
Imajine partnered from early scoping - defining project goals, device topology, and safety workflows - through UX/UI design and full-stack development. We integrated valve controllers, gateways, and multi-sensor networks with the cloud so telemetry and commands stay in sync.
The installer app bridges offline hardware and online intelligence: QR and manual provisioning, guided installations, and task queues tied to incident records in the admin panel. Utility dashboards were designed for high-stakes operations with clear status semantics and map-first navigation when seconds matter.
Tech stack
Built for real-time device telemetry, secure remote commands, and field reliability.
React Native
React Admin
AWS IoT
Node.js
Why this architecture
AWS IoT handles MQTT messaging between sensors, valve controllers, and the cloud at utility scale. React Native gives installers one codebase on iOS and Android with native camera access for provisioning. The React admin dashboard shares the same API layer for incidents, maps, and shut-off commands - so field and control room always see the same truth.
The impact
GasGarda gives utility companies a single platform to prevent and respond to gas emergencies - with visibility from individual sensor readings to area-wide shut-off on a map. Installers work from structured tasks instead of paper runbooks; operators act on live data instead of phone chains.
